Morton Valence
Green Note Ltd, Green Note, NW1 7AN , [Venue Details]Based around the vocal paring of Robert ‘Hacker’ Jessett and Irish chanteuse Anne Gilpin, Morton Valence are veterans of 5 critically acclaimed studio albums.
They take the classic duet, old-school ballad and avant-folk country song, feed them through their own unique filter, creating a sound and song-writing style that is very much their own. Loaded with life-affirming harmony and candid narratives, they have been captivating music lovers and pretty much anyone who happens to stumble into their orbit for some time now. Think of Nancy & Lee drifting down the River Thames on a dreamboat to the promised land, and you’ll be getting close.
Jessett is a prolific songwriter and has played with a variety of bands, including Alabama 3 and Band of Holy Joy. Their current line-up includes pedal steel guitar legend BJ Cole who plays intermittently with the band both live and in the studio, Shane Gilliver on bass and drummer Matt Donavan. They recently collaborated with Stephen McCarthy of the Long Ryders/Dream Syndicate on their 2025 release, ‘Hey Misty’, which was a favourite of Gideon Coe’s at BBC6 Music.
“One of the most intriguing bands on these shores” (The Guardian)
“there is no one operating across quite the same terrain as they do” (Classic Rock)
